Weekend Photos : 10-18 to 10-19 2014

Only two species here ...

First up is a female Mandarin Duck.  This is an Asian bird, out of place in Oregon.  This is a wild bird, but is likely an escaped bird or descended from escaped birds that were imported.








Next, some Elk out at Jewell Meadows.

The following is a selection of my weekend photos ....

Up first is a set of photos of Western Scrub Jays in my backyard.



We were also visited by four young Raccoons who hung out in our backyard Elm tree.





Below is a male Wood Duck at Dawson Creek Park in Hillsboro, OR.



For comparison below is a photo of a male (left) and a female (right) Wood Duck ...

And here is a hermaphrodite Wood Duck displaying marking of both a male and a female.  Compare it to the above photo.



Also at Dawson Creek I photographed a Western Grebe.

Bad weekend to be a frog!

Here is my update of photos from September 19, 2014 through October 5, 2014.  But first, this weekend it was obviously imminently dangerous to be a frog, and here's why ...
