December 23, 2014 through January 3, 2015

Another selection of recent photos including an extremely rare bird for Oregon.

It has been cold here lately, so first is a set of photos with that theme.

Ice

Young Coopers Hawk trying to warm itself on my neighbor's heater vent.

Canada Geese on ice.

ROUS ; Rodent Of Unusual Size (AKA Nutria) on ice.

Ex-Nutria, one that didn't make it.

An odd fungus we saw on a hike which I nicknamed "Santa's Beard" fungus.

Next, a set of Mourning dove photos.

Golden-Crowned Sparrows ...

A Northern Harrier ...

Song Sparrow ...

Harbor Seal ...

Some poor photos of Harlequin Ducks ,,,

A short video of a couple of River Otters ...

Black Oystercatcher ...

And finally, a Tundra Bean Goose. It is a normally a resident of Northern Europe and Asia. Per current birding records this is the fifth occurence of a Tundra Bean-Goose outside of Alaska.  The previous records are from Quebec (1982), Yukon Territory (1999), California (2013) and Nova Scotia (2013).  It looks similar to a White-Fronted Goose but with a darker head and distinctly colored black and orange beak.

Thanks for stopping by!
