Great Egret
I have photographed this particular Egret on numerous occasions. Someone apparently shot it in the right wing with a target arrow. Regardless, it seems to cope.
The following is a sequence of photographs of this Egret fishing. Rather than the typical frozen stealth mode of fishing, this guy resorted to flapping and jumping to scare fish into motion. Here it catches a carp that is too big for it to swallow ...
Aha, all that dancing has paid off ...
The lower bill is jabbed into the fish.
As it cannot get the fish turned head-first for swallowing it releases it ..
And then catches it again in a better position ...
From the side angle it looks like the egret may be able to swallow this fish ...
But, when he turns, you can tell that the carp is just too wide ...
GAK!!!!
Thanks for visiting.
