2018-12-13 through 2019-01-09

Another selection of photos.  These were all taken, either in my backyard or about 2 miles north of here at Svensen Island in the Columbia River.

First up is a winter visitor, the White-Throated Sparrow.  The one just below is an adult and the one below that is an immature bird.

An American Crow flying by ...

A (male) Belted Kingfisher.  I have seen two of these in my yard near the pond, but this one was on the Island.  They are VERY skittish and won't let you get at all close.

A Common Goldeneye.  This bird is either a female or a first-winter male.

Although common around here during the summer, this White-Crowned Sparrow is a bit more unexpected in the December/January time-frame.

Some Greater Yellowlegs ...

Some Northern Harrier photos.  These are all female birds as the male of the species is gray.

A Canvasback Duck ...

A Peregrin Falcon ...

... eyeing a potential lunch of Northern Pintail Duck.

A selection of Bald Eagle photos.  During the winter these are very common on the Island.  The other day I saw 20 birds from a single viewpoint.

And the final series is of some Tundra Swans coming in for a landing ...

Thanks for stopping by!
