Transitioning from Winter to Spring ...
Winter went out with a bang with late winter snows, but Spring came rushing in. Still have a few winter hanger-ons, such as Varied Thrush and, as of a couple days ago anyway, White-Throated Sparrow. Here is a selection of snapshots, no award-winners here, but they were fun and rewarding to acquire, As always, there were more missed shots and opportunities lost such as a recent Golden-Crowned Kinglet and a little Northern Saw-Whet Owl that I called up a couple of nights ago which flew over my head and then landed in a maple tree next to me.
First up, some Hooded Mergansers on my pond.
A look of surprise!
Here is the female catching a frog ...
Here is a set of female Common Mergansers that I saw up at Svensen Island.
Recently I added a new species to my Backyard Wildlife List, when this pair of Wood Ducks visited our pond. They returned yesterday and spent a few hours here.
A Varied Thrush, taken through a double-paned window that gave the background the weird glimmers seen below.
